The inspiration for this was the Ray Bradbury story, All Summer in a Day. The song narrator is the hero. She's been put in this terrible position, but she's determined to find the truth without hating the people who have blocked her from thriving.
lyrics
One hour every seven years
It's barely here was it even clear
It happened at all a memory from the past
Jealous because I'm an iconoclast
I've been places they will never be
I've seen things they will never see
I doubt anyone of them could be honest
Why do they hate me and want me punished?
We only see what we want to believe.
We tend to believe even when we don't see.
Is it real? Does it matter? Don't ask me.
I'm just trying to navigate reality.
I'm just trying to navigate reality.
I'm just trying to navigate reality.
I'm just trying to navigate reality.
It looks like it's happening now
Only a sliver of before time because they won't allow
Me access to the light
They bottled up all their spite
But I refuse to regret what they've done
I'm still the only one who has seen the sun
I hold this close while forgiving them
Not going to be tricked into hating them
We only see what we want to believe.
We tend to believe even when we don't see.
Is it real? Does it matter? Don't ask me.
I'm just trying to navigate reality.
I'm just trying to navigate reality.
I'm just trying to navigate reality.
I'm just trying to navigate reality.
I have something not one of them does
My memory, my story, safe from access
Spent my life working on how to protect
My spirit and body always under attack
You can keep and catch the light
Even when you have to live in seven years of night
Keep safe inside, that's always been the plan
Outside armor like a machine
We only see what we want to believe.
We tend to believe even when we don't see.
Is it real? Does it matter? Don't ask me.
I'm just trying to navigate reality.
I'm just trying to navigate reality.
I'm just trying to navigate reality.
I'm just trying to navigate reality.
